U.S. steel shipments up 3.7% month-on-month in May 2022

According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. steel mills shipped 7,910,730 net tons of steel in May 2022, a decrease of 1.0% from 7,987,038 net tons in May 2021 and an increase from 7,629,985 net tons in April 2022 3.7%. The cumulative U.S. steel shipments from January to May 2022 were 38,366,809 net tons, an increase of 1.1% from 37,938,360 net tons in the same period last year.

Significant changes in cumulative steel shipments between January-May 2022 and January-May 2021 are: corrosion-resistant sheet and strip down 1%, hot-rolled sheet down 4%, and cold-rolled sheet down 9%.
