40Mn carbon structural steel can be used in the normalized state, as well as in the quenched and tempered state. It has good cutting performance, medium plasticity during cold deformation, and poor welding performance. 40Mn steel is used to manufacture parts under fatigue load, such as shaft rollers and screws and nuts working under high stress. After heat treatment, the weldability is low, with overheat sensitivity and temper brittleness, and it is easy to crack by water quenching. 40Mn steel is suitable for fatigue-resistant parts, crankshaft, roller, shaft, connecting rod.
45Mn carbon structural steel can obtain better comprehensive mechanical properties after quenching and tempering treatment, the machining performance is good, but the welding performance is poor, the cold deformation plasticity is low, and it has a tendency to temper brittleness. 45Mn steel is generally used in the quenched and tempered state, and can also be used in the quenched and tempered or normalized condition. It is a good choice for the manufacture of parts subject to wear, such as shafts, spindles, crankshafts, splined shafts, connecting rods, universal joint shafts, engagement rods, gears, clutch discs, bolts, nuts, etc.
