The Mexican economic Secretariat recently announced a new licensing system for steel exports to the United States. The system is designed to prevent certain steel exports from other countries to the United States from being transported through Mexico or disguised as products produced in Mexico.
According to the economic Secretariat, the system will take effect on August 27, 2020. The government order is valid until June 30, 2021, with the exception of semi-finished steel exports, and the deadline is December 31, 2020.
To export these steel products, the exporter needs to provide the Mexican federal export registry, the certificate number of the mill producing the product, including the date of the certificate, country of origin, detailed description of the product, quantity and other details.
