S58C is a Japanese standard high-strength medium carbon steel with appropriately high strength, hardness and elasticity, low workability, low cold deformation plasticity, low hardenability, and tendency to crack after quenching in water. Therefore, large parts made of S58C medium carbon steel are not suitable for quenching. S58C steel is mostly used in the normalizing state, and only small parts are suitable for quenching. Its weldability is poor and the temper brittleness is not sensitive.

C carbon: 0.57-0.65, Si silicon: 0.17-0.37, Cr chromium≤0.25, Mn manganese: 0.50-0.80, Mo molybdenum≤0.25, Cu Copper≤0.30, P Phosphorus≤0.030, S Sulfur≤0.035.
