Compared with low carbon steel, 30# steel has higher strength and hardness, and has better toughness and weldability. 30# steel is mostly used in the normalizing state, and it can also be quenched and tempered.
Chemical composition of 30# steel:
Carbon (C) 0.27-0.34,
Manganese (Mn) 0.50-0.80
Nickel (Ni)≤0.30,
Silicon (Si) 0.17-0.37
Phosphorus (P)≤0.035,
Sulfur (S)≤0.035,
Chromium (Cr)≤0.25
Copper (Cu)≤0.25
Mechanical properties of 30# steel:
Tensile strength σb (MPa)≥490
Yield strength σs (MPa)≥295,
Elongation δ5 (%)≥21,
Reduction of area ψ (%)≥50
Impact energy Akv (J)≥63,
Hardness: unheated ≤179HB,
Sample blank size: 25mm
Heat treatment process of 30# steel:
880℃ normalizing, 860℃ quenching, 600℃ tempering.
30# steel has good cutting performance. It is suitable for the use of hot forging, hot pressing and cutting methods to manufacture parts with small cross-section and low stress, working temperature ≤ 150℃, such as screw rods, tie rods, shaft keys, rings, gears, sleeves, etc.
