In last article "What are the effects of chemical elements on the properties of steel materials -Chapter 1", we have anylized the effects of chemical elements "Carbon, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Manganese" on the properties of steel materials. In this article, we will continue the topic, and check effects of the last seven chemical elements mentioned in last article on the properties of steel materials. They are Molybdenum (Mo), Nickel (Ni), Silicon (Si), Phosphorus (P), Sulfur (S), Tungsten (W), Vanadium (V).
Molybdenum (Mo)
1. Improve the strength, hardness, hardenability and toughness of steel.
2. Improve the machinability and corrosion resistance of steel materials.
Nickel (Ni)
1.Increase the strength, hardness and corrosion resistance of steel materials.
Silicon (Si)
1. Increase the yield strength of steel.
2. Increase the tensile strength of the steel.
3. Deoxidation, degassing, to remove oxygen from molten metal.
Phosphorus (P)
1. Improve the strength, hardness and machinability of steel.
2. Brittleness occurs at high concentrations.
Sulfur (S)
1. The machinability of the blade can be improved with a small amount of use.
Tungsten (W)
1. Increase the strength, toughness and hardness of steel materials.
Vanadium (V)
1. Improve the strength, hardness and impact resistance of steel materials.
2. Retarding grain growth.
