ASTM A131 specification covers structural steel plates, shapes, and bars intended primarily for use in ship construction. Shapes and bars are normally available as Grades A, AH32, and AH36. Other grades may be furnished by agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

ASTM A131 steel plate introduction:
ASTM A131 specification covers structural steel plates, shapes, and bars intended primarily for use in ship construction. Shapes and bars are normally available as Grades A, AH32, and AH36. Other grades may be furnished by agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. ASTM A131 material under this specification is available in the following categories:
Ordinary Strength-Grades A, B, D, and E with a specified minimum yield point of 34 ksi [235 MPa], and
Higher Strength-Grades AH, DH, EH, and FH (AH32/DH32/EH32/FH32, AH36/DH36/EH36/FH36, AH40/DH40/EH40/FH40) with a specified minimum yield point of 46 ksi [315 MPa], 51 ksi [350 MPa], or 57 ksi [390 MPa].

Application

ASTM A131 steel plate application:
ASTM A131 shipbuilding steel plates and sheets are used to manufacture the hull structure of ocean going, coastal and inland navigation ships. Shipbuilding and offshore platform steel plate is required to have certain strength, toughness, low temperature and corrosion resistance, and good welding performance.
