SA516 grade 60 (HIC) steel plate thickness ≤ 1.5in (40mm) is usually supplied in rolling state, and the steel plate can also be ordered as normalized or stress relieved, or normalized plus stress relieved. Steel plates with thickness>1.5 in. (40 mm) shall be normalized.

Unless otherwise specified by the demander, SA516 grade 60 (HIC) steel plates with thickness ≤ 1.5in (40mm) shall be normalized when notch toughness is required.

If approved by the demander, it is allowed to adopt a cooling rate greater than that in air to improve the toughness, but the SA516 grade 60 (HIC) steel plate shall be tempered within 1100-1300 ° F (595-705) later.
