Characteristics and application scope of 40Mn steel plate

40Mn steel plate has good cutting performance, medium plasticity during cold deformation, and poor welding performance. It is used to make parts that are subjected to fatigue loads, such as shafts and rollers, and screws and nuts that work under high stress.

The hardenability of 40Mn steel is slightly higher than that of 40# steel. After heat treatment, the strength, hardness and toughness are slightly higher than 40# steel. Moreover, it has medium cold deformation plasticity, good machinability, low weldability, overheating sensitivity and temper brittleness, and easy to crack in water quenching. 40Mn steel is suitable for fatigue resistant parts, crankshafts, rollers, shafts, connecting rods.
