The most widely used steel grades in the United States come from ASTM standards, which represent a consensus from producers, distributors to users. In most cases, the dimensions, tolerances, limits defined in ASTM standards are basically the same as those in AISI steel product manual.
Many ASTM standards are adopted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) with minor modifications or without modifications. For example, ASME SA 213 and ASTM A 213 are the same, and the chemical composition of some SAE / AISI carbon steel and alloy steel grades is the same as that of ASTM bars, wires and ingots for forging. The plate grade of some ASME standards is the same as the chemical composition of SAE-AISI standards.
