55# steel is carbon structural steel. The carbon content of 55# steel is 0.55%, and heat treatment is mostly tempered. The steel has a large carbon content and a higher hardness after quenching (around HRC63).
55# steel is high-strength medium-carbon steel. After treatment, it has high surface hardness and strength, but poor plasticity and toughness, medium cutting performance, poor weldability and hardenability. Water quenching has the tendency to form cracks. 55# steel is generally used after normalizing or quenching. It is used as parts that require high strength and wear resistance or elasticity, and the dynamic load and impact load are not large, such as gears, rims, flat springs, crankshafts, casting.
