Carbon tool steel: The hardness of the carbon tool steel is adjusted by the content of carbon element. The minimum carbon content (mass fraction) is 0.65% and the maximum is 1.35%. In order to improve the overall performance, a certain amount of Mn is added to the steel. Carbon tool steel is usually rolled into rods, plates, and wires, which are often used as general tools.

Alloy tool steel: The steel not only has a high carbon content, but also contains high alloy elements such as Cr, W, Mo, V, and Ni. According to the purpose, it is divided into measuring tool steel, impact-resistant tool steel, cold work and hot work die steel, plastic die steel and non-magnetic die steel. Alloy tool steel is mostly made into rods and plates.

High-speed tool steel: It has high carbon content and high W, Mo, Cr, V, Co and other alloying elements, and is used as a high-speed cutting tool.
